I have been having a blast playing around with OpenAI’s image magic. In seconds you get these cool, unique visuals back. It is something I never thought I would be able to do, or at least it felt pretty much impossible ten years ago.

I mean, who would have thought a computer could create art that looks this good? You type what you want and that is it. Of course there are plenty of downsides too, like how easily it can be used for fake news and misinformation, and the impact it can have on culture and on real artists, but for now I still lean more toward the positives than the negatives.

Downsides of AI image generation and AI in general

AI technologies are often presented as an opportunity to address many of the environmental problems we currently face and therefore as an ally against climate change. Still, very little attention is paid to the supply chain that makes these systems possible, despite its significant ecological and social impact.
